General Information

Hello,

Thank you for your purchase. Below is some general information about Teak and what you can expect from your furniture.

Consistency of colour will vary when first received however, after a few weeks outside the furniture will mellow to the same colour. As part of the weathering process, cracks and splits will appear on your furniture, particularly on the end grain and to a lesser extent on the surface within a few weeks. Don’t be alarmed when you see this, as this is normal behaviour with close grain hardwoods.

he reason why this happens is because some of the natural oils and materials will evaporate due to exposure to the elements. Although Teak is virtually maintenance free, if untreated, the wood will weather to an attractive silver-grey colour.

Teak is a highly durable wood, though it is recommended that where possible, furniture should be stored inside, or covered during the winter months. This will help maintain the life and beauty of your furniture.

Whilst every effort is taken to ensure that the furniture you receive is in perfect condition, it may be necessary to tighten bolts that have loosened during transit. We recommend that from time to time you check to ensure all bolts are tight.

We hope you enjoy your Teak furniture for many years to come.

Care Instructions

Teak is a tropical hardwood, which has a beautiful natural honey brown colour when new. However, if left outside without treatment, this colour will change to a silver-grey colour. Depending on the colour you’d like to achieve from your furniture, it can be very low maintenance.

Cleaning

You can either use Teak Cleaner, which will kill the mould and mildew spores inside the wood. Or simply use warm soapy water.

Weathered looking Teak

If you do not want your furniture to turn silver grey, then we recommend you use a Teak Protector, to preserve the honey brown colour.

Teak is a hardwood, so it is full of its own natural oils inside, which will prevent rot. Also, occasional light hand sanding will help maintain the cosmetic look of the Teak, however this is not a maintenance problem.

If you notice black spots on your Teak, this will be due to humidity in the wood, which will be developing into mould or mildew. To prevent this from happening, we recommend using a Teak Protector.

Teak Protection Products

Teak Protector

Teak Protector is an innovative treatment designed specifically for this hardwood. Easy to apply & quick drying, the treatment protects your Teak and keeps it looking new by retaining its natural honey brown colour. Teak Protector prevents black spots from appearing and turning the wood silver-grey. Teak Protector will also provide 100% protection from the sun’s rays. To maintain this look, we would recommend you use your Teak Protector yearly. Never apply Teak Protector directly to oiled Teak, as this will result in a very poor finish to the wood.

Teak Cleaner

Teak Cleaner removes oil and dirt and is specifically designed to kill mildew or mold spores that are located within the wood. One application a year should prevent bacteria build up. Teak Cleaner will also bring discolored Teak back to life and restore and maintain the natural honey brown appearance.

Teak Panitiser

If left outside untreated, your new Teak furniture will start to change to a pale yellow colour within 4-8 weeks. If you would like your Teak to gradually turn to its natural grey- silver, then this is the is when you need to apply Teak Panitiser. This treatment will preserve the grey colour and prevent your furniture turning a dark grey – green colour.

Teak Oil

Teak Oil will offer deep protection to your furniture, whilst maintaining the beautiful honey brown colour. Teak Oil replaces the natural oils lost in the wood due to weathering. It also prevents warping and splitting.
